who we are

We are a team of experienced facilitators, mediators and trainers. We’ve developed our expertise through facilitating hundreds of meetings, mediations and workshops for groups and organisations working towards social and environmental justice across the UK, and through our active involvement in grassroots activism and community organising.
We are committed to our own ongoing training and learning so that we can offer the most effective support.

I’ve campaigned on a wide range of environmental and social justice issues for more than 35 years and have been offering training and facilitation to grassroots groups and movements for more than 15 years to support system change. I’m continuously re-inspired by the commitment and creativity of the groups and organisations that I work with. I'm passionate about supporting people to collaborate effectively, engage with conflict, address power dynamics and build resilient systems and cultures. To help me stay energised I love to be in nature, to grow things, to hang out with friends and to meditate.

I work as a mediator, facilitator and trainer. I’ve been exploring the principles of Nonviolent Communication, Restorative Circles, Convergent Facilitation and related processes since 2009, and I care a lot about drawing on these to support groups working for environmental and social justice. I believe deeply that another world is possible, where systems and cultures are focused on caring for all life and everyone’s needs. I see the ways we engage with conflict, share power, make decisions and work together as central to positive social and systemic change. This is partly because I think these areas hold massive potential for empowering our movements, and also because I believe better processes and systems in these areas are central to a world that works for all.

Since my early 20s I’ve been involved in environmental campaigning. In recent years I discovered how facilitation can help everyone’s voice be heard, and how pursuing the question "what's important to you about that?" can lead to solutions that work for everyone. My background is in Nonviolent Communication and Holacracy/Sociocracy, as well as campaigning and system building - the latter with a specific focus on money and alternative ways of engaging with it. I believe that amidst the societal and ecological collapse around us, it is more important than ever before for us all to collaborate, to bring everyone to the table, and to address power dynamics in order for us to unleash all the creative synergies we have.

I’ve found huge richness in working with and in groups all my adult life; from communities of migrants recently arrived in the UK, to housing cooperatives and cohousing groups, to volunteer communities, to activist and grass roots organisations.  I feel our times calling us to live boldly by our most dearly held values, to find new and better ways to work effectively and collaboratively, and to connect with each other and the world around us.  It’s deeply meaningful and inspiring to me to work with so many people who are striving for more equitable, compassionate societies.

I have worked in many different contexts as a facilitator, mediator and trainer over the past 20 years, including in Sri Lanka, the Middle East, Europe, the UK and Northern Ireland. I specialise in conflict transformation, including working with conflict around identity and difference. My approach is rooted in the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). I am passionate about the relationship between personal transformation and transforming systemic and structural violence. I am committed to learning, embodying and developing re-humanising cultures, practices and systems as an alternative to our existing systems for human organising.

Meet our associates

Hannah Lewis
I have been facilitating for groups working for social and environmental justice for more than a decade, initially through being involved with environmental activism. I’m currently studying for a diploma in Processwork, a group facilitation and psychotherapy training, where I’m learning to swim below the surface of group life. I’m particularly interested in helping groups to get to know more about their own power, and how to use it well. I also love facilitating conflict, and I’ve seen first-hand how conflict can be an opportunity for change, and how it can tap into a group’s creativity.

I am a participatory facilitator and activist, influenced by Quakerism, Paolo Freire, and the Training for Transformation principle of meeting people where they're at. I specialise in public speaking, Theatre of the Oppressed, power and priviledge, white allyship for racial justice, non-violent direct action strategy, spiritual activism, and radical youth work. I am the founder of the popular education Role Models Project, and am part of collectives Stansted 15, Resist + Renew, Beautiful Trouble, and Queer Tours Of London. In my spare time I like to ride bikes, explore the South Downs, and learn about herbal medicine.
